The Options for Reroofing

November 21, 2014

Many homeowners tend to overlook the importance of replacing their roof until it is too late, sometimes causing extensive damage to the interior of their homes. Don’t let this happen to you.

Do You Need a New Roof?

There are many ways to answer this question including, shingle roof wear such as loose asphalt, missing or loose shingles, and curled edges. Another thing to look for is loose flashing around chimneys, dormers, porches, or home additions where they meet the main area of the house. A metal roof can show rust, hail damage, or loose flashings as well.

A flat roof must be inspected by a professional to determine existing issues. No matter what type of roof you own, it will age, and weather conditions will eventually cause unforeseen problems.

New Roof Options

  • Shingles: There are many styles of shingles, the most popular is the architectural or dimensional fiberglass shingle. It has a high end appearance, and the basic 30 year warranted architectural version costs little more than the older three tab shingles, such as those common on older homes. There are many other styles to choose from and samples can be viewed by contacting us.
  • Metal: A popular trend is metal panels. This roof is similar to those used on historic homes, but comes in many designer colors. The two most common styles are the R panel that uses exposed fasteners, and the standing seam, which, although is more costly, has no exposed fasteners, thus increasing efficiency. Both of these roofs are long lasting, and add many years of beauty to your home.
  • EPDM (rubber): The most common material used on buildings with flat roofs today is EPDM which is commonly known as a rubber roof. This material has replaced the old asphalt system and is much more environmentally friendly than most flat roof material in today’s market.
